Personal story

Richmond Smith was born into a very poor family, He became a school drop-out due to extreme poverty that confronted his family after he lost his dad at the age of 6 years. As a result of this, he joined some friends to the street at the age of 8 years. Later, a member of the local church saw the potentials in him and supported him through formal education until he graduated from the University. After graduation, he decided to render selfless services to humanity especially to children and youth who require some support that can transform their lives.

He then co-founded Heritage Charity Foundation, a registered local NGO in 2014, supporting poor young children in the selected rural communities with educational and healthcare support. In 2016, he decided that although the education and healthcare project is achieving results, it would be irresponsible to needlessly ignore the problem from the grassroots where parents of these children couldn’t provide 3-square meal a day due to poverty as a result of unemployment which are the causes of youth in illegal small scale mining and destroying our farmlands and water bodies, youth in deforestation which is causing harm to our environment and rural-urban migration looking for non-existence jobs in the urban sectors.

He then developed the idea to recruit and provide free entrepreneurship training to rural women and youth unemployed using the innovative method of organic farming to enable the rural youth become entrepreneurs in agribusiness which will self-sustain them and their families. With this, he believes it will reduce the poverty level in the rural communities, regain our water bodies and farmlands from illegal small scale mining, will add to tackling climate change and reduce the rural-urban migration.
